Brief History

Originally established in 1935 at Kasawo Kigayaaza in Kayunga District (currently occupied by Kasawo Secondary School), the college, now known as Kibuli Core Primary Teachers’ College, was relocated to Kibuli Hill in 1954. Initially, the college focused on training vernacular teachers for four years before they were sent to schools for teaching. Subsequently, students from primary six and primary seven were also admitted to the teaching course. In 1985, the Grade II teaching certificate was phased out, and the college began admitting students who had completed O’ Level for a two-year training program, leading to a grade three teaching certificate. By 1935, the college was already producing vernacular teachers who continued their studies for four years in Teacher Training Colleges after primary four. The shift from Kasawo Kigayaaza to Kibuli Hill in 1954 was driven by reasons such as convenience of access for the growing population and the government’s interest in providing strategic land for Muslim education. The land was generously provided by Prince Al-Hajj Badru Kakungulu, father to Doctor Prince Kassim Nakibinge, resulting in the renaming of the college to Kibuli Muslim Core Primary Teachers’ College.
